  • No, I am not.

I am a qualified Massage Therapist. At this stage private health companies will only cover Remedial Massage.

  • Nervous system regulation is a state of homeostasis or equilibrium in the nervous system generating feelings of safety, connection, relaxation and well being. In neuroscience, the concept relates to the activation of the ventral vagal pathway within the autonomic nervous system. This pathway is termed the 'safe and social' pathway. Massage is a great way to activate this pathway for a lot of people!

A dysregulated nervous system on the other hand involves the fight, flight, freeze and fawn states of the autonomic nervous system. These states often occur in response to chronic stress, trauma, exhaustion and lack of physical and/or emotional safety.

  • I don't offer remedial massage. Please book an appointment with a remedial massage therapist or other health professional if you have an injury or specific musculoskeletal issue that requires assessment and a targeted approach.

  • Regular massage is a great addition to any self care plan. Looking after your own needs is so important. If you are someone that loves physical touch, I encourage you to make a regular booking. Filling your cup with a monthly massage can be such a gift to yourself.

  • Massage therapy can certainly support people recovering from trauma, including PTSD, however the timing needs to be considered.

In the early stages of trauma recovery when a persons 'window of tolerance' is very small, massage may register as too threatening to the nervous system. In this instance, massage may not be beneficial.

When clients are further along in their recovery journey and their 'window of tolerance' has more capacity, massage has many benefits.

Benefits include the activation of the 'safe & social' pathway in the autonomic nervous system creating a sense of calm, groundedness and felt safety. Also, reducing hyper-vigilance and arousal levels.

Massage can also reduce pain associated with muscle tension which can be an ongoing issue while the body and mind recover from trauma.

Other benefits include lowering stress hormones such as cortisol and increasing production of serotonin and dopamine - reducing stress and anxiety.

Another important benefit of massage is enhancing the mind-body connection as massage encourages individuals to be present in their bodies, reducing feelings of dissociation.

I aim to create a calm, predictable and soothing environment in the massage studio. I take time to discuss any positions on the table or any body areas to be avoided and any other triggers.

  • A large part of my work is conducted at my home. I think most people can understand that my comfort and security come first. I am happy to recommend other massage therapists that treat men.

  • No, I do not treat injuries. I can relieve muscle tension and stiffness however.

  • Yes.

At both of my venues there are no steps.

If getting on and off the massage table might be a challenge, I do have an electric table at the Warby Range studio that can be lowered close to the floor.

Please contact me with any specific questions around mobility and access. I would be very happy to discuss any specific needs.
